Straits Times Index – At A Pivotal PointsTI

We’ve been asked by many on our views on the straits times index or STI for short and thought we’ll just do a short sharing over here.

From our chart the immediate support of STI would be around 3200. Many eyes are on it and the moment it stays below that, it might attract  shortist to come in.

STI has been ranging between 3258 region and 3200 for the last 2 months with no real direction. So if a break were to occur this might set the tone for a pullback. The 20 days MA is sloping down and have cut the 50ma too which in a technical term means the direction might be down. This hasn’t occurred since late last year. Dow, Nasdaq all have been making new high but our Straits Times Index hasn’t seem to make any new high.

With each rebound STI can’t seem to break out too. So lets watch to see which levels play out. We got our next few levels of support drawn. And would be ready in the case if STI starts to fall. The 200ma would be our final support. The banks which have largely been supporting the STI also seems to be pulling back.

We’ll be using Poems CFD and did you know that poems is the only stockbroker in Singapore that offers the Straits Times Index for trading? =)

Wilmar – Dropping Near To Our Target

Wilmar – Dropping Near To Our Target

Wilmar June 2017

Wilmar a STI Index stock was a stock we posted back on 29th May on our blog. Slow and Steady the way we like it and down she goes very near to our target of 3.48 now. A nice drop in two weeks. We have shown how we managed a trade and with our target in sight this is when we might consider taking some profit off the table .

Wilmar has also broken the 200ma which is a technically a bad sign and more downside might come. But we will stay vigilant and cover all the shorts if we spot some rebound coming. This can only be judged during the trading day and if you want to know more just contact us here

STI – We Are Corrected

STI – We Are Corrected sTI

Back on 19th April when we posted regarding the Straits Times Index (STI) we were looking for a correction to start. Well it went down 21 points and start to show strength again. Not much of a correction eh.

Now for the first trading day in May it has broken that 3190 horizontal resistance and marched on to 3215 which is another resistance. If it manage to overcome that we might see it cover the gap and move towards 3249 area. Well, admittedly we were hoping for some sort of correction to come so that we can look for lower entry but market doesn’t seem to present that yet.

The index was being pushed up mainly by our three local banks so it’s not a broad based rally which is a little concern for us. We’ll be going into May being a little careful and remember to be flexible. Though the saying sell and go away in may is on the cards we would still want to see the charts before making a move.

French election, korean tension could be some news that might hurt the market.

STI- The Start Of A Correction?

19th April, 2017, 12:11 AM

STI- The Start Of A Correction?sTI

The Straits Time Index or STI for short has once again fallen below the 20days moving average. From our previous post on STI about a month back it broke the 20ma but managed to recover soon after. This time round things might look a little different.

From a technical perspective, the 20ma and 50ma looks like its getting closer (which is not a good sign) and the 20ma looks like its sloping down too. It is currently at around the 50ma and the horizontal support and if those break we might see if slowly fall towards 3070 area.

Geopolitical issues between North korea and US are taking headlines. But could there be more issues than that? We’re watching and ready for the next move to come.  Goldman Sachs had an earning miss what would happen if more companies start to miss their earnings?

May is also round the corner and there is a saying sell and Go Away in May. Will that come true for this year? No one knows so let the chart tell us.

Our stop loss would be 3163 or 3190. Will update more when the time comes.

STI – Broken Below the 20 Days Moving Average

22nd March, 2017, 10:50 PM

STI – Broken Below the 20 Days Moving Average

The STI or straits times index has caught our attention because it has finally closed below the 20 days moving average.

From the chart we can see that the STI has stayed above the 20 days moving average for the last 3 months and even when it tried to break down it managed to rebound from it. But for today things look a little different. STI has finally closed below the 20MA hence we should take note of it.

It also coincides with our uptrend line and the horizontal support lines. With that we might be looking at further downside if those support breaks. The STI component stocks or blue chips would be the one leading the STI downwards so one can either short the STI or look for the component stocks to short.

We’re looking at the next support of around 3076 and will update further according to market condition. We’ll use poems CFD to short the straits time index.
