Did You Notice This About These Two Banks?

24th November, 2022, 11:50 PM

We have seen a good run up for the three local banks on better than expected results and on the back of rising interests rate. But can this run continue on forever? As we know, nope! There will be a time for a break and pullback and there is something we noticed.

DBS 24th Nov 2022

DBS, as we can see has been guided by the 5ema and 10ema. This moving average has been guiding DBS for the last month and has never closed below that BUT today at close, we can see that it has closed below the 5 and 10ema. Is this a sign of more pullback? We think its possible! Its good for the banks to pullback so that those who missed the rally can possibly re-enter. The initial support would be at the 20ema of around $34.75. The Next downside support would then be around $33.84 near the uptrend and horizontal support.  We can see the volume has increased for today too. This might also help support the downside. If you’re looking for a short candidate, this might be one counter. If DBS closes above $36 then this short trade would be invalid.

OCBC 24th Nov 2022

OCBC, also similar to DBS, it has closed below its 5 and 10ema which might signal more downside. An increased in volume might support the downside for OCBC too. It has closed below the short term uptrend line too and the first downside support is around the 20ema which is $12.26. If more weakness comes in then we might see $11.87 on the cards. A close above $12.60 would make the downside invalid. Remember, if you are looking to short always have a TRADE PLAN with a stop loss, entry and target price. Don’t naked short and one can consider using Poems CFD for short or even DLCs!

As for UOB, it hasn’t broke and close below its 5ema so until we see that, then some pullbacks will be on the cards.

Are You Watching This Counter? Cause We Are and Here’s Why!

Are You Watching This Counter? Cause We Are and Here’s Why!
DBS 26th May 2022

DBS has been lackluster for the last few session and even though it broke the support of around $30.50 it didn’t follow through to go lower but fought hard to make a come back. This is why DBS is now on our radar.

  1. DBS is finally above the 5ema, we can see that the 5ema has been resisting it and after today, it has finally broken above.
  2. DBS at current price has a dividend yield of around 4%. Not the best , but not bad either plus it has potential for capital gains too!
  3. It has broken above the downtrend line we have drawn and overcome the $31 resistance too!
  4. Indicators are pointing to an oversold condition for DBS.

So with these points, we might see some rebound in DBS in the days to come.

Keeping a close eye on it.

DBS – [ All Time High! What To Take Note Now?]

DBS – [ All Time High! What To Take Note Now?]

DBS has hit an ALL TIME HIGH (ATH) and given such a climate its in, it deserves a clap! Hitting all time high also means that it has hit our second target of $31.80.  The move in DBS is also helping to sustain the gain in our STI as DBS is part of the STI component stock. We’re glad that DBS is moving the way we want it to since our alert at $30.55 before the breakout but here’s a few things to take note of and not get overly excited.

  1. Its Q3 results are coming out on 5th Nov before market opens. As we always preach, its a gamble to play over results especially if you’re trading the stock. If you saw what happen to IFast after results you will know what we mean. Despite a good set of numbers, the stock got sold down. Could that happen to DBS? will the results live up to the analyst? Who knows? Will the market like the results? So playing over results does carry more risk in our opinion.
  2. On the chart, if DBS starts showing weakness closing with a weak bar, that might be a sign of profit taking and for those traders, it might be a sign to come out.
  3. DBS might be running ahead of results as most banks overseas are reporting good results so sentiments and expectations are building up.

So with these points, do take note when trading DBS! Our next upside target is in the message!

DBS -[ Jumped In Before The Breakout Today?]DBS 19th Oct 2021

Another good day out in the markets unless you’re shorting the markets. STI has hit our upside resistance of 3200 which we pointed out in our weekly outlook and close just a point below.

As for the STI component stocks, banks continued its move up with DBS having the largest percentage gain closing in second after dairyfarm.

If you read our article just last Thursday, we mentioned that OCBC and UOB had broke out and ran up but DBS hasn’t done so and it was worth keeping a close look out. True enough the break came today as US closed positive pushing the bulls further ahead. DBS saw a gap up this morning before making a tiny pullback and off it went towards our first target of $31.18! And yes, you guessed right, our EXCLUSIVE CLIENTS were alerted before the breakout! See below for our next target!

DBS – [ Momentum Slowing Down? Time To Take Some Profits? ]

DBS – [ Momentum Slowing Down? Time To Take Some Profits? ]

Chart Source: Poemsview 26th Nov 2020

DBS named the best bank in the world in 2018 was a stock that has been on our watchlist for a long time!

Back in late Sept when we posted on DBS it was just trading slightly below $20. We continued to update our clients in mid  OCT (see above for a snap shot)  and an update again in late Oct. Since then, DBS has rocketed over 25% and we hope you managed to catch a ride on this rocket!

So the question is, is it time to take profits? Well, the answer really lies on your objective for entering. If this trade has met your objective price target, then it’s wise to sell or at least take some profits.

If your objective was to invest in the banks for dividends for the long haul, then selling now and putting your funds back in the bank might not be the best thing. Banks interest rates as we all know are rock bottom *psst* its 0.05% the last we checked. Just check out the rates HERE! So leaving it in the stock might be a wiser thing to do unless you have somewhere else you want to deploy your funds too. At current price, DBS yield is around 4% still decent as compared to leaving it in the bank.

So now lets take a look at the chart to get some sense of direction. From the technical perspective, DBS saw an increase in volume today but the candle didn’t show a full body one and it actually closed slightly below its opening price. Short term wise, we feel DBS might be over extended and a pullback to the 5ema first would be healthy and a pullback to 10ema would be even better! We have drawn the support and resistance for reference too. Common indicators are also showing signs of overbought region. We would prefer a pullback before an entry!

Singapore Local Banks – [ Low Enough For A Rebound? ]

24th September, 2020, 8:09 AM

Singapore Local Banks – [ Low Enough For A Rebound? ]DBS 24th Sept 2020

Chart Source: Poemsview 24th Sept 2020

Our three local banks has been on a downtrend for awhile due to the weaker economic data, bleak outlook and a low interest rate environment too. The downward pressure has been rather strong and the question is, is the end in sight? Also, as the three banks take up a rather big weightage in the STI, how the STI moves depends quite a bit on how these banks move too.

Let’s take a look at our first bank DBS.

From the chart, we MIGHT see a temporary short term support at around $19.50 area which is our horizontal support. A nice strong candle appeared yesterday and this bounce might take us to our downtrend line or maybe even to $20.60-20.80. From there on, downwards pressure might start to come back in.  A good level to start considering scaling in might be around $19.

OCBC 24th Sept 2020

OCBC similar to DBS has also seen some support at the horizontal support of around $8.38. If this bullish momentum can carry on we might see OCBC break out from that downtrend line and maybe even to $8.7 and $8.9 if market remains well. After that we might see downwards pressure coming  in. A good strong support might be at around $8.

UOB 24th Sept 2020

UOB is rather interesting. It actually broke the downtrend line, hover a few days and came down and actually tested the downtrend which became a support. The near term resistance might be $19.34 breaking which we might see $19.74 and maybe even $20.30. A good strong support is around $18.19.

DBS – [ Rebound or Down? ]

DBS – [ Rebound or Down? ] DBS 23rd April 2020

Chart Source: Poemsview 23rd April 2020

DBS has been seeing selling in its shares for the past week. It broke down from our uptrend line and also the 5ema which gave us some conviction to alert our CFD clients on this potential analysis.  To add further pressure to the already stressed up system, news came out regarding Hin Leong Trading.  Many banks were involved in this high profile cases now.

As DBS broke its uptrend line of 19.12, the downward pressure came in and took it down to our first target of $18.50. We saw a slight rebound and a test of the 5ema but DBS failed to gain footing above it.

If DBS can’t close above this in the next few days we might see more downside. Which camp will you be on?

DBS – [ Good Set Of Results, But What Happened To The Price? ]

29th July, 2019, 5:55 PM

DBS – [ Good Set Of Results, But What Happened To The Price? ]DBS 29th July 2019

Chart Source: Poemsview 29th July 2019

DBS reported a better than expected set of results this morning before market open. This caused an initial spike in the price of DBS to our third target of $26.99 which is also the gap resistance area. After a slight overshoot to $27.04 it started to come down on profit taking.

As DBS has been up since mid july traders could have anticipated a better results which they were not disappointed to. While the unsuspecting traders jumped onto the news the seasoned trader might have taken some profits. It is important to read the chart well and not to be greedy at such times. Taking some profit off the table along the way is something we usually do. As DBS is up over $1 since our ALERT to our EXCLUSIVE CLIENTS some profit taking is to be expected.

We’re putting DBS’s resistance at $27 and a strong break might look to cover that gap. Fed is meeting this week to decide the rates. Its something to look out for.

DBS – [ Follow Up, Hitting 2nd Target of $26.80, What Now? ]

DBS – [ Follow Up, Hitting 2nd Target of $26.80, What Now? ]DBS 24th July 2019

Chart Source: Poemviews 24th July 2019

DBS bank continues to inch up following our blog post just LAST WEEK. It has reached our second target and once again our EXCLUSIVE CLIENTS were alerted on it. As DBS has moved up over 3% from $25.97 to $26.80 over the past week taking some profit off the table is always good. We always emphasize in protecting your profits, we rather  make less than to have a profitable trade turn to a loss.

DBS so far is the strongest bank amongst the three local banks with OCBC the second strongest in terms of price movement. UOB didn’t have much movement and is still in a range if you refer to the chart.

Our next target for DBS is rather closeby at $26.99 also do take note that their earning results is coming out on 29 July  before market opens. Well, you know our stance in trading too new earning results, so do pay special attention.

How was your trade plan for DBS like?

DBS – [ Inching Towards Our First Target, What Should We Do? ]

DBS – [ Inching Towards Our First Target, What Should We Do? ]DBS 18th July 2019

Chart Source: Poemsview 18th July 2019

DBS the strongest in terms of price movement amongst the three local banks. It has seen its price moved up over the last few days whereas OCBC and UOB were moving in a sideway pattern.

We’re glad we managed to catch this upswing and alerted our EXCLUSIVE CLIENTS on it on Monday when DBS was well supported by the 5ema.

It is now moving close to our first target of $26.40 which is just 5 cents away. As the market seems a little wobby to us we would want to protect profits at this point and not expect too much. It is better to make lesser profit then to have a profitable trade turn to loss. Blue Chips stocks like banks and property stocks are somewhat in a drifting phase and we’re monitoring for the next course of action.

We have drawn out our trade plan for DBS, do you have a trade plan?
